'Road Rules' Goes into Syndication "Road Rules" followed "The Real World" in becoming a staple of the MTV schedule, and now it's taking a similar path into syndication.
MTV announced Friday (Dec. 21) that it will make the first eight seasons of the road-tripping unscripted series available to local stations through October Moon Television, a Los Angeles-based distribution consulting company. Charles Larsen, October Moon's president, calls the "Road Rules" repeats "a perfect chance for local stations to cash in on the reality craze." The market is already crowded, however, with court shows and relationship programs like "Blind Date" all over the airwaves.
"Road Rules" premiered on MTV in 1994. Its first two seasons featured a group of twentysomethings piled in an RV and traveling the country performing various weird jobs and getting on each other's nerves for the cameras. Subsequent seasons have taken the cast to Europe, Australia and the Middle East.
