FOX Calls Do-Over for 'American Idol' A hiccup in the voting procedure on "American Idol" Tuesday night has forced FOX to take a mulligan on the show and restage it.The network says incorrect call-in numbers for some contestants were shown on-screen at the end of Tuesday's (March 22) show, during the recap of each finalist's performance. As a result, FOX will do a re-vote Wednesday (March 23).Instead of the usual half-hour results show, Wednesday's live (tape-delayed out West) "Idol" will expand to an hour. The 11 contestants won't have to re-sing their songs; instead, FOX will show their Tuesday performances again, adding "new live elements" to round out the hour. After the show, phone lines will open for two hours so viewers can vote for their favorites again -- presumably with all the correct numbers. The results show gets pushed back to 9 p.m. ET Thursday (March 24), following "The O.C." The premiere of the comedy "Life on a Stick," which was to have followed Wednesday's results show, will now air at 9:30 p.m. Thursday.During the recap of the performances Tuesday, each performer's call-in number was displayed on screen as "1-866-IDOLS-XX," with the last two digits ranging from 01 to 11 for the order in which they performed. Below that, in smaller type, was the numeric equivalent, "1-866-436-5701," for example.FOX says the two numbers didn't match in the graphics for the night's final three performers: Mikalah Gordon, Anwar Robinson and Jessica Sierra. The "IDOLS" numbers were correct, but instead of the numeric equivalents ending in 09, 10 and 11, they mistakenly ended in 01, 02 and 03.The network discovered the discrepancy after the show aired and decided not to take the chance that viewers had used the incorrect numbers to vote.
