CNN Pulls Promo Calling Paula Zahn 'Sexy' It's one thing for a news anchor to be considered sexy. It's apparently quite another for the network she works for to call her sexy.
This lesson comes courtesy of CNN, which aired a promo for anchor Paula Zahn's new morning show over the weekend that did, in fact, call her sexy. The network says the spot, created by CNN's promotions department, was not approved by top executives, and that its airing on Saturday (Jan. 5) and Sunday (Jan. 6) was a mistake. "It was a major blunder by our promotions department," CNN Chairman Walter Isaacson tells the AP. "I was outraged and so was Paula, who has spent more than 20 years proving her credibility day in and day out."
The promo, for Zahn's new show "American Morning," features a voiceover actor reading the line "Where can you find a morning news anchor who's provocative, super-smart (and) oh, yeah, just a little sexy? CNN. Yeah, CNN."
The words "provocative," "smart" and "sexy" flash on the screen before a picture of Zahn appears. Just as the voiceover says the word "sexy," the sound of a zipper opening is audible. Zahn, who moved to CNN from the Fox News Channel late last summer and worked for 10 years at CBS before that, says she was offended by the spot. "CNN management has apologized to me and has assured me that a mistake like this will not happen again," she says. More Headlines
