'Bachelor' Picks Event Planner Marsh in Season Finale During last night's (April 25) series finale, Alex Michel, the star of ABC's "The Bachelor" reality series, selected Amanda Marsh from among 25 women who had been vying for the chance to marry him
But Michel, a 31-year-old Harvard-eduated management consultant, decided to hold off proposing to Marsh until the two had a chance to see if they could really make it work out. He showed Marsh the Harry Winston diamond engagement ring he'd picked out and told her he'd hang on to it and asked her to move to California to live with him. "Before we walk down the aisle together, I want to make sure we feel the same way about each other outside the fancy world of mansions and limousines," says Michel. Marsh says she agreed, started crying and embraced him. Marsh, a 23-year-old event planner from Chanute, Kan. was selected over the show's other finalist, Trista Rehn, a physical therapist and dancer for the NBA's Miami Heat. In telling Rehn that he'd picked Marsh instead, Michel said to her: "You have made my heart race since the first day... I've enjoyed every moment that we've spent together, but I don't think we're meant to spend our lives together."
/>"It's not that I a thousand percent wanted to be engaged today," she admitted later. "It's just that we had such a great talk the other night and he told me, 'It's you.' Those were his words."
Throughout the course of the five-week series, Michel spent time with the women in group situations and on individual dates. At the end of each episode, he narrowed down the field at the rose ceremony, where he'd give a rose to the women he wanted to keep around. Before the season finale, ABC aired a reunion special where the 23 women who had been rejected spilled the dirt on Michel. Due to the show's overall success, ABC has already begun taking applications for bachelors and bachelorettes for a second season. More Headlines
