Bravo Looks to Build with Five New ShowsComing off the most successful year in its history, Bravo has a passel of new series ready for 2004 that it hopes can continue the winning ways of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy."The NBC-owned cable network will roll out five new shows next year, ranging from an unscripted series about stage mothers to a comedy about couples in marriage counseling. Five other shows are in development."My goal is for Bravo to continue to be cutting-edge and daring, but to have mass appeal," says Jeff Gaspin, president of the network. "I believe these projects -- and the exceptional producers and talent attached to them -- will help us achieve that goal."
Among the new series are "Show Biz Moms," which follows child actors and their mothers as they try to break into the entertainment world through commercials, movies and the stages; "Significant Others," an improvisational sitcom starring Andy Kindler, Andrea Savage and Brian Palermo; and a new Cirque du Soleil series, "Solstrom."Also on the list are the previously announced "Project Runway," a competition for aspiring fashion designers, and "Things I Hate About You," an unscripted show that aims to examine "the psychology of modern relationships" by giving couples video cameras to catalogue their partners' annoying habits. Bravo will also air performance specials by comic Kathy Griffin and Sarah Jones. Griffin's show will be a variation of her standup act, in which she talks about her life as a "D-list" celebrity. Jones performs monologues and multi-character pieces, inhabiting a number of different roles while on stage by herself.
