CBS Examines Drama Pilots, ABC Eyes Comedies As television's most watched network, CBS isn't likely to have many holes in its lineup, but the network is still moving forward on a rash of drama development. CBS has given cast-contingent orders to three series, including a witch drama from executive producer Sandra Bullock.Meanwhile, former television witch Caroline Rhea's comedy "Plan B" was one of two new comedy pilots picked up by ABC, a network that may actually have some programming slots to fill.All three of CBS' most recent pickups come courtesy of Warner Bros. TV. If the network is satisfied with casting, a pilot will be shot for "Wanted," while the network will get pilot presentations of "Sudbury" and "Dr. Vegas."According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Wanted" is a thriller set in the LAPD's fugitive section. Cynthia Cidre ("The Mambo Kings") wrote the pilot and will executive produce with Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly and Thomas Carter ("Hill Street Blues").John Herzfeld ("15 Minutes," "2 Days in the Valley"), will write, direct and executive produce "Dr. Vegas," a drama about the in-house doctor at a Las Vegas casino. Lawrence Bender ("Pulp Fiction"), Kevin Brown and Mark Sennet will also executive produce."Sudbury" comes from the "Practical Magic" team of Bullock and producer Denise DiNovi. Becky Hartman-Edwards ("American Dreams") scripted the pilot, which focuses on a family of witches, and will executive produce.Rhea, the former "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" co-star, will star in "Plan B," about a thirtysomething woman dealing with her career, romance, weight problems and her mother. The project, previously announced as a script commitment, was written by Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia ("The Grubbs"), who will also executive produce.ABC's other comedy pickup went to "We Are Family," about a man trying to repair his relationship with his estranged father. The pilot was written by Timothy Fall ("Men, Women & Dogs"). The former actor will also executive producer with Dan Staley and Rob Long.The Alphabet Network also grabbed a drama pilot from feature producer Mark Gordon ("Saving Private Ryan"). Based on a script by Shonda Rhimes ("Crossroads") the series centers on female residents in a surgical training program.In other casting news, The WB has ordered "Commando Nanny," a comedy pilot based on "Survivor" producer Mark Burnett's experiences going from British commando to Beverly Hills nanny.
