'Boondocks' May Take a 'Swim' The Cartoon Network, which helped revive "Family Guy," may bring another FOX castoff to its "Adult Swim" block. The cable channel is working on a deal with Sony Pictures TV to bring "Boondocks," an animated series based on the comic strip of the same name, into the "Adult Swim" fold, according to The Hollywood Reporter. FOX ordered a presentation during the spring pilot season but didn't pick up the show.Like the comic strip, a "Boondocks" series would follow budding revolutionary Huey and his wannabe gangsta brother, Riley, after they move from inner-city Chicago to a quiet suburb to live with their grandfather. Strip creator Aaron McGruder and Reginald Hudlin ("House Party," "The Bernie Mac Show") are executive producing the show."Boondocks" appears in close to 300 newspapers, and three compilations have been published, most recently "A Right to Be Hostile." In addition to the Cartoon Network series, Sony is also considering a feature film based on the comic. The late-night "Adult Swim" block is a huge draw for the Cartoon Network, ranking No. 1 in all of cable for its time period in young adults. Strong ratings for "Family Guy," along with big DVD sales, helped convince FOX to produce new episodes of the show for summer 2005 -- three years after the last original episode aired.
