Vegas Idol: Newton, E! Seek Next Strip Headliner Las Vegas legend Wayne Newton is concerned that those who might follow in his footsteps aren't getting the training they need.So, with the help of cable network E!, he's doing something about it.The tireless entertainer will star in a series -- titled "The Entertainer" -- that aims to find the next great Vegas performer, be it a comic, singer, illusionist or something else entirely. The 10-episode series is set to premiere in January."I am so excited about working on and seeing this project through to fruition with E!," Newton says. "I believe this show will fill a much-needed void in the training ground of onstage performers that no longer exists. It is a win-win for our audience, talent, our town and entertainment. What could be more fun and worthwhile?""The Entertainer" will bring together 10 would-be headliners for a series of "grueling performance challenges," as well as other tasks designed to teach them the ins and outs of showbiz as it's practiced in Las Vegas. A panel of judges that includes Newton will cut one performer each week.The winner will appear alongside Newton in the show's finale and also get a shot at becoming a featured performer in Newton's long-running show at the Stardust Hotel.
